A little about me…

I am an Ohio native who grew up in a small town north of Cincinnati. When I say small, I mean small. I’m talking no stop lights, no gas stations, less than 1,000 people small. My childhood was spent running through cornfields, making up scary stories, and riding my bike to the corner market to get Tootsie Rolls for a penny each, and maybe sometimes splurging on an Airhead or two.
I had a very typical 90s kid childhood. I ate cereal, watched a ton of TV, drank Sprite and Dr. Pepper. When the siren went off at 6, I headed home so I could sit down to tuna noodle casserole for dinner before heading back to play in the dirt. Except on Sundays. Sundays were reserved for playing at Grandma’s house after church until Sunday Night Dinner. That’s when the grown ups would come over to eat dinner, play cards, and drink coffee; us kids would either play in the bank parking lot next door, or in the basement if it was too cold or rainy.
When it was time to go to college, I swore I would leave my small town and never look back. I went to college a few hours away so I could break out on my own. That didn’t last long. A year later, I was taking classes at my local college for a career I said I’d never have: Teaching. My mom was a teacher, and I’d resisted the teaching bug for as long as I could.
Just before graduation I met my husband, Conner. I got my first teaching job, and we married that summer. I had never believed in love at first sight. But the moment I saw him, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Two years later we welcomed a baby girl, and two years after that (almost to the day), we welcomed her little sister. No, we did not plan to have their birthdays one day apart. We just got lucky?
I moved from public education into the private sector where I taught adult learners for a few more years before leaving to become a stay-at-home mom.

In 2019, Conner and I had discussed wanting to eventually own land, raise livestock, grow our own food, and allow our life to slow down. That “dream” became a necessity to us when 2020 came.
We worked hard, saved, doubted we could do it, but eventually we were able to make that dream a reality. We purchased 8.5 acres of land and built our forever home.
In May of 2023, we moved in and are working towards our goal of simple living and a home centered life. It isn’t perfect, and it isn’t easy, but we are building our dream one step at a time.
Thank you for joining us on our journey!
For the great doesn’t happen through impulse alone, and is a succession of little things that are brought together…
